Résumé : Mot-clé qui marque profondément le monde odysséen, le métier définit non seulement l’espace profane et l’espace sacré, mais la spacialité ithacienne dans son ensemble. La circularité, l’horizontalité, la verticalité, appartiennent, à la fois, si intimement à la topographie, à la religion et au tissage, que la séparation n’est plus nette. Cet essai propose une réflexion articulée autour de la représentation de l’espace ithacien tel qu’il se trouve encastré à l’intérieur de l’espace du métier à tisser. Si des gestes de tisserande et des gestes religieux tissent un réseau de relations entre les sites ithaciens homériques, comment cet entrelacement se fait-il ? Que nous apporte pour la compréhension de l’espace ithacien, cette logique du tissage ? À Ithaque homérique, l’espace du métier à tisser serait-il un point à partir duquel l’espace humain peut s’orienter vers l’espace géographique et s’organiser dans l’espace social et religieux ?

Abstract: The ‘loom’ is a key-word in the Odyssean world; it not only indicates the profane and the sacred space, but it also marks the Ithacan spaciality in its entirety. The concepts of circularity, horizontality and verticality, are strongly related to topography, religion, and weaving, to a degree that the distinction between these realities is no longer identifiable. The present paper argues that the Homeric topography of Ithaca may be cognitively reflected on the structure of the loom, and that the space of weaving, and consequently of the loom, is strongly associated with particular locales. If the movements of weaving and these of religion weave a web of relations between these locales, how does this interweaving operate? How can the logic of weaving aid our understanding of the Ithacan space? Could the space of the loom, at Homeric Ithaca, be a point where human space finds its place in topography as well as the social and religious spaces?
